"We adored the visual impact of this piece. What really caught our attention was the ruching of the silk and how perfectly it framed the beadwork. We loved the vintage components that Diane incorporated into her entry, especially the carefully chosen purple crystals that complemented the ribbon and added another dimension to the design. For the treatment of the shell itself, the swirling bits of fringe encase it with subtle tones and show a softer side of the Muse. From the bold aqua disks, to the woven toggle, this piece was a successful study in composition, color, and wearability. Beautiful job Diane!"
The design and colors of the muse transported me to France. I began by bezeling and embellishing the muse. A necklace evolved into a sparkling fantasy suggesting the opulence of the Palace of Versailles and Marie Antoinette. I challenged myself to use as much of the kit as possible and only have the square beads and some seed beads left over. I added glass cabochons, vintage and new Swarovski crystal rivolis, a few vintage pearls, and aqua quartz along with seed beads from my collection. I especially love how the ruffled ribbons provide a textural contrast to the crystals.
